Claire Anneet
Claire Anneet is currently completing her Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Studies with an emphasis in voice at the University of Southern California. Previously, Claire earned an Associate’s degree in Music and English Literature from Santa Monica College, studying with Portland-based jazz singer Gina Saputo. During her time at SMC, Claire had the opportunity to study and perform with world-renowned bassist Stanley Clarke in a tribute performance honoring the late Chick Corea. Before focusing on jazz studies, Claire built an extensive background in theater, performing in over twenty stage productions. She began at just eight years old in the title role of Annie and later appeared in a variety of Shakespeare productions at Will Geer’s Theatricum Botanicum in Topanga, California. She has also starred in musicals including Spring Awakening, Rent, and Carrie, among others. While attending Sarah Lawrence College in New York, Claire worked as the music director for an original musical celebrating the music of Joni Mitchell. Alongside her work in theater, Claire has been recognized in several vocal competitions hosted by the Malibu Rotary Club, placing in the top three from 2014 to 2018. At only nine years old, she received a Malibu Music Award for Outstanding Musical Achievement for her work in stage productions and with a local singing group, and she received the award again in 2012 for her continued contributions to the local arts community. Growing up in Malibu, California, Claire frequently performed at local events, including the Malibu Chili Cook-Off alongside Dick Van Dyke in 2009 and again in 2018 with her own band. Her rock band later won both Most Entertaining and Best Overall in a local Battle of the Bands competition. During the pandemic, Claire transitioned from stage to studio, self-producing and releasing her debut single, Too Late (Going Down). Her voice has been described as “velvet—listening to Claire is like being wrapped in a daydream.” Following the release, she was invited to become a represented artist in California State University, Northridge’s Music Industry program. Through this collaboration she released her next single, Get Together, an upbeat summer song about connection and falling in love. Since releasing her first two singles, Claire has performed at venues including The Hotel Café and The Moroccan Lounge, and has appeared as a guest vocalist at the Fairmont Hotel in Santa Monica alongside pianist Sam Smylie. Now at USC, Claire continues to develop her voice as a songwriter and composer, with plans to release new music following graduation.
